Thanks For Another Great Season at Big White Ski Resort!

Posted On: April 11, 2022 |
Another season of bluebird days and powder dumps at Canada’s Favourite Family Resort has come to an end! All of us at Big White Ski Resort want to thank you, our loyal guests, our dedicated staff, and our on-mountain residents, for another epic season of skiing, riding, staying, and playing. For the next couple of months, our heads will be down preparing for the summer – for hiking, biking, festivals and fun – but for right now, let’s take a moment to celebrate the 2021/2022 ski season.

From November 26, 2021, until April 10, 2022, the slopes of Big White have been enjoyed by thousands of skiers and snowboarders. After a few tumultuous years of COVID-19 and restrictions, we are so grateful to see the return of events, to welcome back national and international travellers, and to have stayed open until our season-end date.

Here are a few noteworthy moments from the past few months:

  1. Shortly before the season opened, Big White Ski Resort was honoured in Condè Naste Traveller magazine by being voted Canada’s second favourite resort, and BC’s first, by its readers.
  2. Opening Day, November 26, was one for the record books, with local snowboarder Donavon Cantu completing a first-chair hat trick – he snagged first chair three years in a row!
  3. We released a brand new alpine trail map this season, with a more accurate depiction of the mountain than any map we’ve published before.
  4. Early on in the season, it was announced that K West Home would begin development on the $60-million Black Forest Residences project (units are on sale now!). Shortly after, another development in the area was announced. In fall 2022, a $58-million development will begin and will consist of two projects: Blackhawk and Wild Wood.
  5. Hometown Hero and Olympic Athlete Tess Critchlow made us all extremely proud in the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games – placing 6th in the Women’s Snowboard Cross Event!
  6. We welcomed two new restaurants to the mountain: Sasquatch Sushi and Cantina Del Centro. Cantina De Centro served up 22,000 tacos and 11,000 margaritas to hungry and thirsty guests this season!
  7. Globe Cafe hosted 76 live music sessions (3,000-plus songs!) with the one and only Jon Bos. Globe also served up 1,680 of its famous Tabletop S’mores!
  8. Gunbarrel Grill served up 1,367 of its famous Gunbarrel Coffees, and 364 Cherry Jubilees – making a total of 1,731 flames at the restaurant. Below, Snowshoe Sam's sold 18,500 sleeves of Sam's House Lager, 13,250 of Okanagan Spring 1516, and grilled up 6,000 burgers!
  9. Around 4,000 guests jingled through the back country on our horse-drawn sleigh rides, with 94 dinners at our cabin in the woods. The horses travelled 250km during the Christmas season.
  10. We saw the return of everyone’s favourite family friendly race – the TELUS Kelowna Cup! Through the event, and with the help of TELUS, we raised $19,415.60 for the Kelowna Women’s Shelter. Over the eight years the event has been running, we’ve raised $168,000 for local charities and non-profit organizations in the Kelowna area – including the Big White Ski Club and the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation.
  11. On April 2, 2022, Big White Ski Resort played host to Canada’s highest music festival – AltiTunes, organized by the masterminds behind Denim on the Diamond. Thousands of music lovers headed up the mountain to hear performances by daysormay, Lights, and Canadian icons - Arkells. It was a night we won’t soon forget, and can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year!

While the snow melts away and reveals the hiking and biking trails, we want to get you excited about a few events, including the return of the Craft & Country Music Festival, and the addition of the Spartan Race’s North American Championship! On the Bike Big White side of summer, we’re once again hosting Pinkbike Academy for its third season of filming, and we’ll be reintroducing Freeride Days as a spectator event.

We’ll see you this summer!
