Six Ways to Save Money on your Big White Ski Trip

Posted On: November 20, 2014 |
There are only seven days left until the Big White snow season kicks off - and everyone is incredibly excited about it. Skiing, snowboarding, fresh powder, apres ski, hot chocolate, warm fireplaces, tasty burgers, fairy lights twinkling through the Village... there's nothing better than a snow trip with family or friends. But how are you supposed to save cash while on the mountain?

Snow trips aren't exactly known for being easy on the pocket. By the time you've sorted lift tickets, accommodation, transport, clothes and food, your wallet might be feeling considerably thinner.

With that in mind, here are our top tips for saving money at Big White this season. Follow these tips and you'll have all the more money to spend on Big White souvenirs... or hot chocolate... or schnapps (whatever you're into, hey?).

1. Get a Season Pass

If you're going to be up on the mountain for more than a few days, your best bet is to invest in a Season Pass. Not only do they get you lift access for an entire season, they also come with a whole heap of perks. Season Pass holders at Big White get access to free skating and night skiing, free access to nordic and snowshoe trails, year-round exclusive deals and a whole lot of discounts in resort.

2. Shop at Central Reservations for accommodation.

Central Reservations at Big White always have some kind of hot accommodation deal happening. If you look closely and book accordingly, you'll generally manage to find some kind of ski week deal to make your wallet a bit happier - like this 7 for 5 deal, which turns a 5-day skiing holiday into a week-long one...

3. Keep track of the food specials.

There are so many restaurants in Big White, and each of them offer some kind of special on a daily basis. For example - Monday night at Snowshoe Sam's is cheeseburger night and you can grab one (with fries) for $7. Pair that with a $4.75 beer and you'll be loving life.

4. Take advantage of the free on-mountain activities.

It's easy to fork out a lot of cash on activities - especially if you have kids to entertain. But if you're worried about breaking your budget, forget about the big activities and go for the free stuff on offer. Big White has plenty of options that are on every night. Try heading along to carnival night (bouncy castle and fairy floss, anyone?), family apres ski (free popcorn and coloring for the kids), Bingo night or even the Saturday fireworks down in Happy Valley.

5. Shop the ex-rentals and last-season gear.

If you're cringing at the thought of buying brand-new gear this season, but can't possibly ride another day on your skis or snowboard - why not check out the ex-rentals, or last season's gear at retail stores? It'll be heavily discounted and although it may not be brand new, it'll definitely be a better option than maxing out your credit card.

6. Come with a group.

Big White are proud to offer customized packages to groups of 20 guests or more. You can go here to download a full groups information package - and go here to see some of the special discounts we have on offer for groups.
