Supporting the People Behind Big White Ski Resort
At Big White Ski Resort, that means investing not only in the guest experience, but in the staff who bring it to life every day, from lifts and lessons to food service, housekeeping and accommodations.
That commitment reflects the broader role tourism plays across British Columbia. In 2024, BC’s tourism sector generated $23 billion in revenue, contributed nearly $8 billion to provincial GDP, and supported more than 113,000 direct tourism jobs across the province.
At Big White, that broader story is reflected in the people behind the resort. Big White employs 130 people year-round and grows to a peak winter workforce of 1,075 staff, making it one of the Central Okanagan’s major tourism employers.

Those team members work across nearly every part of the operation, supporting the guest experience at every stage. The resort’s four largest seasonal departments each employ more than 100 staff members: Ski & Board School with 196, Food & Beverage with 160, Lifts with 120, and Housekeeping with 105.
Supporting those staff means investing in the infrastructure they need to live and work on the mountain. In December 2024, Big White Ski Resort completed a $13.5 million staff housing expansion in the Black Forest subdivision, adding 128 new beds and bringing total seasonal staff housing capacity to 605 beds — part of the resort’s ongoing commitment to supporting its workforce in a true ski-in, ski-out environment that benefits not only guests, but staff as well.

That commitment extends beyond housing. Big White’s employee culture is grounded in the same values that shape the guest experience: going the extra mile, creating memorable moments, and fostering a positive, safe and friendly environment. Alongside practical resources and opportunities to grow, employees also have access to wellbeing support through TELUS Health, helping support their health and wellbeing both on and off the job. Big White is committed to supporting a fair and equitable workplace through pay transparency, ongoing data improvement, and a continued focus on ensuring its reporting reflects the full diversity of its workforce.
