Big White Ski Resort Celebrates Kelsey Serwa's Induction into BC Sports Hall of Fame
One of our own, the legendary freestyle skier, Kelsey Serwa, has been inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame! This incredible achievement is a testament to her unwavering dedication, exceptional talent, and inspiring career in the world of freestyle skiing.
On October 25th, the BC Sports Hall of Fame announced their induction class for 2023, and we were thrilled to see Kelsey's name among the six athletes to be honoured. This prestigious recognition makes us immensely proud, not just because Kelsey is one of Canada's most decorated freestyle skiers, but also because she is deeply connected to our Big White community.
As many of you know, Kelsey's roots run deep here at Big White. Her grandfather, Clifford Jack Serwa, was a co-founder of our beloved resort. Kelsey's journey from racing down our slopes as a child to standing atop the Olympic podium embodies the very spirit of Big White Ski Resort, where we believe in nurturing passion for winter sports and helping dreams take flight.
Over the years, Kelsey has represented Canada on the global stage with tenacity and grace. She competed in her first Olympics at the age of 20 in Vancouver 2010, finishing an impressive fifth. Her determination only grew from there, leading her to secure a silver medal in the next Olympics (Sochi 2014).
Then, at the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Kelsey achieved an outstanding feat - she won the gold medal! This accomplishment placed her among an elite group of ski cross athletes, as she became one of only two in the world to win multiple Olympic medals.
Kelsey's impressive track record extends beyond the Olympic arena. She has also claimed a world championship in the 2011 ski cross competition and won three Winter X Games medals - gold in 2011 and 2016, and bronze in 2010.
In 2019, Kelsey announced her retirement from competitive ski cross after ten magnificent years with the national team. She then embarked on a new journey, enrolling in the UBC Okanagan for kinesiology, yet another testament to her enduring spirit of challenge and growth.
Yesterday, on June 1st, 2023, Kelsey officially joined the ranks of the BC Sports Hall of Fame at the formal induction gala for the class of 2023. We, at Big White Ski Resort, couldn't be prouder.
To Kelsey - congratulations on this well-deserved honour! Your success is a testament to your hard work, talent, and unwavering spirit. You've not only made us incredibly proud, but you've also served as an inspiration for the next generation of skiers who look up to you.
