A Snowy Season Ahead? What the Farmer’s Almanac Says About Winter at Big White
The Farmer’s Almanac is calling for a classic Canadian winter—and Big White is poised to be right in the sweet spot.
From coast to coast, the Almanac predicts colder-than-average temperatures, heavy snow events, and powerful Pacific storm cycles. And for interior British Columbia, that means the ideal mix of elevation, storm tracking, and consistent snowfall—something Big White is built to capture.
The Almanac’s Winter 2025/26 Outlook for Interior BC
Each year, the Farmer’s Almanac stirs up anticipation with its long-range weather predictions. For this upcoming season, it’s forecasting a stormy, snow-filled winter across Canada.
Here’s what that means for Big White:
- Frequent snowfalls and heavy dumps from Pacific storm systems
- Colder-than-normal temperatures expected inland
- Higher-than-average snowfall at mountain elevations like Big White
- Overall? A "classic Canadian winter" with a punch of snow and ski-perfect conditions
When the Almanac Got It Right: Looking Back at Past Predictions
Skeptical? We get it. Long-range weather forecasts don’t always nail it—but the Farmer’s Almanac has a few wins under its belt that stand out for Big White fans:
2016/17 – “A Return to Winter”
The Almanac predicted a colder, snowier winter across much of Western Canada—and Big White saw over 750 cm of snow that season. The resort opened early November on the 13th, with powder days arriving before the Christmas rush.
What Happened at Big White:
- Total snowfall: 850.2 cm (334.7 inches)
- One of the snowiest seasons on record
- The resort opened early and stayed snowy through spring
Verdict: Prediction matched. A powerhouse season by every measure.

2021/22 – “A Tale of Two Winters”
They forecasted a frigid start, followed by big dumps mid-season. That January, Big White was buried under a series of snowstorms that brought nearly 200 cm in just one month, validating their call for an above-average interior snowpack.
What Happened at Big White:
- Total snowfall: 655.8 cm (258.2 inches)
- Over 200 cm of snow fell in January alone
- December and January were packed with powder days
Verdict: The Almanac nailed the front-loaded pattern.

2022/23 – “Snow Train Rolling In”
Though the coast saw inconsistent conditions, the interior of BC, including Big White, was blessed with a long winter and persistent snowfall that kept runs covered well into spring. It was a standout year for spring skiing—another tick in the Almanac’s win column.
What Happened at Big White:
- Total snowfall: 755.6 cm (297.5 inches)
- Regular snowfalls and excellent base throughout the season
- One of our top 5 snowfall years since 2010
Verdict: Strong match. The snow train arrived as forecasted.

What This Means for Winter 2025/26 at Big White
For skiers, riders, and families planning their getaways, the Almanac’s predictions give us reason to hope for:
- A strong start to the season
- More epic powder days
- Consistent snowpack for ski school, events, and après all winter long
If you’re dreaming of carving turns in fresh snow under bluebird skies or catching the first chair after a classic Okanagan storm, this may be the winter you’ve been waiting for.
A Word to the Wise: Don’t Wait
If you’ve been thinking about planning your ski vacation, now’s the time to act. The world is watching this forecast—and travellers are listening.
According to Big White’s direct booking agents, peak holiday periods are selling faster than ever. Families, powder seekers, and group bookings are locking in their dates earlier than we’ve seen in recent years.
“We’re seeing a higher volume of already confirmed bookings than we’ve ever seen before,” said Michael J. Ballingall, Big White’s Senior Vice President, in a September 3, 2025, interview with Castanet.
This trend is continuing.
With that kind of momentum and a snowy forecast to back it up, waiting too long could mean missing out on your ideal dates, accommodations, or lift pass deals.
