Big White Brings in the Troops!

Big White Ski Resort was happy to host the Army Reservists that serve in the BC Dragoons from Kelowna, BC for the day on January 26th, 2014. This is a yearly visit that typically includes a full day of skiing and a lesson with one of our skilled instructors from The Big White Ski and Board School. For this year’s visit they have combined work and play by incorporating an avalanche skills training session into their day at Big White Ski Resort.

Training took place at Big White Ski Resort in the Black Forest Parking Lot where 3 skill training stations have been set up:  avalanche transceiver, probing and shoveling.

Kris Hawryluik, the Director of Ski Patrol at Big White Ski Resorted commented: “In the future Big White Ski Patrol and the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue wish to utilize the army as an additional resource should we have a large back country avalanche response.  The training that we`re doing today is the first step towards achieving this goal.”

The beautiful blue bird day and balmy 3 degrees Celsius weather provided unlimited visibility, making this a perfect day for training.
