Kevin Hill and Chris Robanske visit Big White Community School
Kevin Hill (recent Gold Medalist at the 2015 X-Games and Silver Medalist at 2015 World Championships) and Chris Robanske (four-time World Cup Medalist and Sochi Olympian) both visited Big White Community School for a meet & greet with students, taking the time to discuss their careers and answer the many questions that students had for the pair.
Hill and Robanske are currently in Big White to compete in the two-day Speed Nation: NorAm Snowboard Cross events, held at Big White’s very own TELUS Park - the best progressive park in North America – over the 11th and 12th of February.
Big White’s students came up with some great questions to ask the athletes, including: “Who are your heroes; who pays your flights to Sochi; what was your favorite school subject; how fast have you gone on a Snowboard, what was your first medal and where did you win it." (The answer to the last one was Big White, Silver in Snowboard Cross 2002.)
“There are lots of little aspiring Olympians in the school, and having the athletes come and speak to them is really inspirational for them,” said Jude Brunt, mother of two Big White Community School students. “It was a really positive experience.”
Big White Community School is one of the highest-elevation schools in Canada, located at 5,482ft. It has 42 kids split across two classes which cover kindergarten through to Grade Nine. Students are free to ski to school every morning, and also spend plenty of time skating, snow-shoeing, playing hockey and skiing. The school is also unique in that students have free ski days on Friday, allowing them to make the most of the winter wonderland that surrounds them.
