A note from Bluestar the provider of buses for Big White Express Service:

All buses are cleaned at the end of the day using industry approved cleaning products. This would include, but not be limited to:

  • A full exterior wash
  • Servicing, dumping and cleaning/flushing the lavatory tank, include applying chemical perfume packs to sanitize.
  • Checking and cleaning luggage bays, including sanitizing handles.
  • Check and empty if needed all overhead luggage compartments, sanitizing edges and handles.
  • Clean seats, clean between seats and coach wall, sweep crumbs, then spray with disinfecting spray (Cloth seats) or wipe with sanitizing wipes (leather)
  • Clean and disinfect lavatory area. Using sterilizing wipes on all surfaces and touch points.
  • Sweep floors to remove large debris, then mop using disinfection solution. Including Lavatory floor, under seats, main aisle, stairs and drivers area.
  • Empty and wash front and rear garbage bins. Empty and replace smaller at seat garbage bags.
  • Clean and sanitize driver areas and stairs
  • Clean interior windows
  • Wipe all arm rests, hand rails, seat backs and hold points using disinfectant wipes.
  • Cleaning and restocking pump hand sanitizers.

In addition buses are spot cleaned as needed throughout the day. This would include, but not be limited to:

  • Sweeping floors
  • Emptying and replacing garbage bags
  • Spot cleaning windows
  • Wipe arm rests, hand rails, seat backs and hold points using disinfectant wipes.

If there is a known bio-hazard on the bus such as vomit, blood etc. then the bus has to be removed from service until a deeper clean can be instituted, that involves all of the above plus specific cleaning of the affected area, this changes depending on the surface i.e. steam cleaning for fabrics, chemical sterilizing for vinyl.

As well as the driver clean we have a full time bus detailer who performs a deeper more thorough clean on buses in rotation, during the current corvid-19 outbreak we are transitioning their role so that they will be spending a larger portion of their time sterilizing surfaces above and beyond the daily cleans.

Finally in extreme cases (previously for norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships) we have fogger sanitary packs that can be released on a bus overnight to sterilize all surfaces.
