Critchlow Women Sweep Neil Edgeworth Memorial Banked Slalom Event at Big White Ski Resort
This past weekend Big White Ski Resort Ltd. hosted the 12th Annual Neil Edgeworth Memorial Banked Slalom in honor of Neil Edgeworth, a professional snowboarder from Kelowna who was killed in an avalanche at Chamonix in France. It was a great, feel good weekend with perfect weather and great racing, but the camaraderie and new friendships ruled the event. There were a record number of participants, with just over 220 entries and for the first time the Canadian National Adaptive snowboarders joined the event.
Tess, Jade and Nada Critchlow, a snowboarding family from Kelowna, swept the weekend each winning their respective categories. Tess, 13 years old, won the women’s 14 and under category. Jade, 15 years old, won the women’s 15 to 18 category and Nada, their mother, won the women’s masters category. Both Tess and Jade have been competing in the British Columbia Snowboard Federation Provincial Series for a number of years, and their mother Nada is an avid snowboarder who works at Big White Ski Resort. Jade has qualified to compete in the Boardercross at The Canadian National Championships, April 1st to the 6th at Mont Tremblant in Quebec. Tess and Jade both have won or placed highly in every event that they have entered in the last few years.
The Neil Edgeworth Banked Slalom has become an important gathering for the snowboarding community. People have come from all over North America to participate and celebrate the true meaning of the sport. The event focuses on fun, friendship and all the positive aspects that reflect the early ideals of the sport.
The Neil Edgeworth event is organized and hosted by Flynn Seddon, Big White Ski Resort’s Director of Snowboarding and a World Cup TD.
