On the heels of WestJet’s winter schedule announcement, City of Kelowna Mayor Sharon Shepherd is pleased that WestJet will be adding an additional non-stop flight from Kelowna to Toronto in September.
“This is good news for Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley,” says Mayor Shepherd. “This is a popular route and having the additional non-stop WestJet flight to Toronto will be a great benefit to passengers traveling between our two cities.”
In addition to a non-stop flight on Saturdays, which will increase WestJet non-stop service to Toronto from six days to seven days a week, WestJet will also offer direct service to Toronto, with a stop in Calgary, seven days a week. Guests will no longer be required to change planes in Calgary.
”We are delighted to be able to offer the people of Kelowna new and improved service to Toronto,” says Bob Cummings, Executive Vice-President of WestJet’s Guest Experience and Marketing. “We are incredibly fortunate to enjoy such tremendous support from the people of Kelowna. We thank them for their loyalty over the past 12 years. We look forward to continuing to offer the people of Kelowna the service they have come to expect from WestJet and we hope they enjoy this new service.”
Kelowna was one of three airports WestJet first began service to in 1996. The Kelowna International Airport offers over 30 departures per day with non-stop service to Calgary, Edmonton, Las Vegas, Prince George, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria on five air carriers: WestJet , Air Canada, AC Jazz, Central Mountain Air, and Horizon Air. Seasonal charter service is also offered to Los Cabos, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta.
Kelowna International is responsible for generating an estimated $310 million of annual economic activity, sustaining 1,835 full-time jobs and is one of the top ten airports in Canada, serving over one million passengers annually. Visit the airport’s official website at www.ylw.aero.
