This week at Big White ending July 18
Friday, July 18th, 2008

The Events crew had a busy weekend taking the mascots out to the beach! They went to Gyro beach, in Kelowna, on Saturday and then Sunday up to Kal Beach in Vernon. This Saturday, look for the Silver Star silver fox on-site at Ellison, Fintry, and Kekuli Bay Provincial Parks; while the Big White's "Loose Moose" will be at Lake Okanagan Resort, Bear Creek, and City Park in Kelowna. They will be giving out discount coupons so if you see them don’t hesitate to go on up and say hi and pick up a great deal. The crew was also at the Cruise at the Corner on Wednesday night, a weekly car show. The events team has been busy preparing for the BC Summer Games, July 24 through the 27th.

It has been a beautiful hot, dry, sunny Okanagan style summer week at the resort and all of the projects are going full speed taking advantage with great weather.

The Edge has had a very busy week with up to 55 people working on the site each day. The 1st building in Phase 1 has finished its rockwork and stucco so they are moving on to building 2. The 1st building in Phase 2 finally has the roof supports on and the roof sheeting is finished. The 2nd Phase 2 building footing walls were stripped and now back filled and ready to pour the floor slab. At Phase 3 the blasting crews have been drilling and ready the blasting.

At Stonegate the building has really taken shape with all of the first floor exterior walls put in place and now they are preparing the ceiling/ second floor. They have also been clearing the construction residue of off the decks and pool area and getting that area finished.

The Chateau Blanc continues to pour concrete on a daily basis. This week has been all columns and shear walls. The 2nd larger crane is installation has been delayed and remains parked on truck trailers at Happy Valley while crews prepare its location.

In the Feathertop subdivision, at what will be one of the premier private residences on the mountain the foundation walls were poured and stripped, and support columns for the garage floor were poured. They also have just about finished the excavation for the main building. Another one of the cabins has started a landscaping project with various plants and trees.

At the Grizzly Ridge site in Upper Snowpines site preparation for excavation has begun on 2 eightplex units. They are hoping to get the foundations completed before winter.

The Big White building maintenance crew working to double the daycare size continued with the demolition of all the walls, removal of flooring and started framing the new walls. Another team continued with the repainting and repairing of all the woodwork on the exterior of the Village Centre Mall. They also started building the frames for the new Mountain information boards that are being installed at Gem Lake, at the Black Forest and replacing the old sign at Happy Valley.

Over at Lara’s gondola the lift crew is awaiting a crane to lift out the bull wheel the cable has been removed to ready the bullwheel for dismantling. The lift crew also started repainting the Bullet Chair tubes and bottom station. The brush cutting moved over from the Ridge pod to the Bullet area this week with the crew working on Highway 33 and Sun Run.
