NS: Whats up Flynn, how are you doing today? Flynn: Well today is good. October 30th my birthday and new fresh snow on the ground. NS: Just what are you doing this time of the year? Have you started preparing for the season? Flynn: We have made some repairs to rail and boxes and are staging the stuff at the bottom of TELUS PARK. Getting all the gear ready and waiting. NS: What about plans? Do you have any major changes happening in the park this year? Flynn: We will be expanding our park by developing a new park lane. WE are unsure what will be on there but it will be Medium / Large features maybe styled as a jib lane called the Junk Yard. NS: There was a lot of flow last year, are you keeping the same sort of slopestyle setup? Flynn: WE have found a pretty good balance in the park and we are heading into the third year. We want to set up the park and have it running by December 18 Christmas holidays. That is dependant on the snow we get from mother nature. WE only blow snow in the half pipe cause it takes the most snow and that is were our two guns are placed. NS: How about the park crew? Anyone new on board? Flynn: We have a high turn over but have about 5 guys coming back this year which will really make the park better as they know what’s going on. They all have the eye from where we left off last year. It makes it hard when you deal with new staff each year. It does effect the quality of the park when you got to start all over with new people. Just like anything it gets better with age. NS: In your opinion, what is the hottest style of feature going to be this year? Flynn: Tough one! Style changes and riders change too. I like to see long flowing rails something that you can lock onto and go like a roller coaster ride. Maybe that is it!!.. a roller coaster rail. You know smooth bends that could go up down and side to side all in one motion. 100 feet long or something. WE DON”T have one but maybe we can work on it. NS: Are you going to do any experimental building, or keep more to the standards of what you know works and is fun to ride? Flynn: I like to let my staff have a lot of say but I think certain things work and certain things don’t. People have to remember that as far as a park is concerned the feature has to be maintained and also functional. Experimental builds cost money in cat time and labor so you want to have a good idea that it will come out good in the end. I think we can do a lot of experimental designs with rails and boxes which you will see in our park in the future. Any body want to sponsor a rail???? NS: What kind of an opening date can people expect? Flynn: We are shooting for December 18th providing we get some good early snow. People have to remember that at Big White we depend on some dirt sub structures but we need snow from the sky. SO our park gets bigger and better as we get more snow and the season move on. The more snow we get the bigger features we can build and the more tings we can add to the park. NS: What is going to be the best feature to ride this year? Flynn: Well, we got something for everyone of every ability level so go out and find you favorite feature and let me know what you think as we need more POSITIVE CONSTRUCTIVE input from you people out there. NS: When can riders expect to be riding a decent jump? I know that this is always the last thing to go up in a park, as it takes so much snow. Flynn: I would like to think with our dirt sub structures and a little help from old man winter we should have a few good ones in there by opening day. We will start out with trying to get some 30 / 40 /50 footers in early. Then as we get more snow we will add more jumps and multiple take offs to get a variation of distances for all abilities. NS: Anything further you’d like to add? Flynn: WE need to get good feed back in order to make the parks better so send it in. The future of terrain parks lie in the park riders hands so ride with in your abilities and Work your way up on the feature use you head to think not land on Have great winter and look forward to seeing everyone in TELUS PARK.
