The season is in its last week and we are sad to see it end. On behalf of The Staff in TELUS Park we hope you enjoyed the winter season and hope to see you out for the last weekend!
The park is in great shape and the crew are looking forward to seeing you shred right up until the last minute. Due to spring conditions the mini pipe and some snow features may be slow to open up if the conditions are icy.
Best Regards,
Flynn Seddon
The 12th Annual Neil Edgeworth Memorial Banked Slalom
The 12th Annual Neil Edgeworth Memorial Banked Slalom has come and gone. But this years gathering left a feeling that will carry on forever.
A record number of 222 riders converged on to Big White to Take part in the 12 annual gathering . Officially dubbed a "gathering " and not a competition, the banked slalom truly accomplishes 2 things one ; Bringing friends together and two keeping the brotherhood and sister hood of the sport alive. Snowboarding's deep roots are all about fun.
The Neil Edgeworth banked slalom helps old schoolers remember what it felt like being in the for front of a new sport and helps educate young riders that there is something deeper to snowboarding than looking cool, winning prizes and being a little punk. This year had a great vibe with everyone who took part feeling connected to something larger than just a weekend at a ski resort. There were a few standout things in my mind that made the weekend special
For instance the first time the banked slalom had an adaptive category with members of the Canadian Snowboard Federation Adaptive team joining in.
Tyler Mosher and Ian Lockey put in impressive runs and were greeted with a standing ovation from people in attendance. Tyler had a few moving words to say to the crowd about people overcoming challenges and getting out and taking part in activities that they truly love.
The Critchlow ladies, a Mother and two daughter team taking first in their respective age groups. Tess first in the 14 and under Jade first in the 15 to 18 and Mother Nada Critchlow first in the Masters category.
We also had joining us the two youngest riders we have had to date 8 year old Alina Stevens from Rossland BC and 8 year old Baili Guidi of Kelowna both standing tall in the 14 and under men and women's categories.
Each Year we have a special award to give out to people who represent the true meaning of snowboarding from volunteer event organization, work done in promoting the sport in the Industry and keeping the spirit and fun alive in snowboarding and this year the ARTAVOX custom guitar was given to Danny Saint who now resides in Golden BC. Danny has been to almost every event and always brings a big crew of family and friend and is joined each year by his father Bob Saint who comes to the event to make people smile and make new friends every year. Congratulations Danny you deserve it!!
This 12th Annual gathering gave me hope that the true meaning of snowboarding is still alive and strong and that each year more people will come and be exposed to one of the best weekend in the sport of snowboarding.
Big White hosted the 4th and last Event of the Village Rider Night Rail Jam event March 14th
A great crowd showed up to cheer the skiers and snowboarders as they threw down an array of tricks on the custom buildbox and rail set up. Everyone put together their best effort to make it into the top 3 in each category to take away the cash. $100 for first $50 for second and $25 for third.
All the riders and skiers wish to thank Village Rider for the support and that made the big difference in the series this year said Flynn Seddon director of outdoor events and terrain Parks.
After the two hour session finished here is who wound up on top.
