Being a school student at Big White Ski Resort’s Community School means that no day is ever an average school day. Yesterday was no exception, with school students having the opportunity to speak to some of Canada’s greatest athletes as they visit the resort for competition.
20-year-old Ned Ireland from Okanagan Centre started off the 2015 Ski Cross NorAm season with a bang last week, winning the first NorAm race and placing 2nd in the second race at Ski Cooper in Colorado.
Over one hundred Australians dressed up in their boardies, bikinis and Aussie flags to kick off Australia Day on the mountain this morning. Meeting for a 10am run down “Kangaroo”, everyone munched on Tim Tams while posing for photos with Boomer, our kangaroo mascot.
There was chanting, singing and last-minute engineering modifications. That's right - The Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race came to Big White Ski Resort for one fun-filled morning of tobogganing in Happy Valley. Over 400 engineering students from all over Canada and the US came along to join the challenge of who could build the best toboggan. There was one major rule - only the concrete parts of the toboggan could touch the snow.
We saw the New Year in with style this season. Two sets of fireworks meant that the entire resort was lit up at 8pm and midnight, with families enjoying free hot chocolate, free glowsticks and Family Challenge Night at Happy Valley Day Lodge.
