U.S. President's Weekend Record
“Big White Ski Resort was all smiles on the sunny, but cold USA President’s Weekend just passed. Some previous records and all-time records have been broken and a new goal has been established”, commented Michael J Ballingall, Senior Vice President for Big White Ski Resort Ltd.
“Our American business has been dismal and on a decline since President’s week 2008. This is a new trend and a relief to all the business at Big White Ski Resort that the Americans are finally making their way back to our Resort,” said Ballingall. Big White Central reservations recorded heavy sales out of the Washington State I-5 corridor with most customers booking in the last month.
“We anticipated this type of trend would have happened last year because of the Olympics” commented Tracy Layng, General Manager Big White Central Reservations Ltd. “we did not see significant numbers until early January. It must have something to do with the snow, because it sure isn’t our dollar anymore,” said Ms. Layng.
Here are some of the new benchmarks established:
- Best Presidents Day Weekend since 2008 – skier visits increased by 17.2%
- Best F & B in 4 years – up by 20.9%
- Occupancy was at 99% - up 11% on 2008 figures
- Children’s Ski School – up 32.5% and an all-time record
- Cruz the Blues (photo attached) had over 1,200 participants – a 28% increase over the previous Presidents week record of 2008.
Cruz the Blues is a fun family competition to ski or ride every blue run on the mountain in two days. Participants all receive a free t-shirt and hundreds of door prizes.
“It’s so nice to see the Americans back in the Resort” said Blair Ireland, Director of Guest Services. “I haven’t seen this many Americans in the Resort since the Gold Medal game between Canada and the USA was broadcast live in the middle of the Village from Salt Lake City Olympic Games in February of 2002.”
