Magic Weekend at Big White!
The sun’s rays beamed on Big White this past weekend as an array of events took place across the mountain. The Big White 2010 Games continued with a rail jam in TELUS Park on Saturday. The rail jam was primarily a spectators event and brought out some fantastic local talent showing their skills on the boxes and rails under a star studded sky. Sunday’s Speed Skiing on Upper Paradise was hugely successful as our radar gun caught over 50 participants racing it out for the honour of Big White’s speediest! “It was awesome up there, there was a constant line of racers from 1:00pm until around 3:00pm. Some just wanted to keep trying so they could beat their families” commented Chris Kaputsky from the Big White Events team. The Kelowna Ski Club, the largest ski club in BC also enjoyed a weekend of fun here at Big White as they held their annual family fun race on Saturday. The race was a huge success as the kids aged six to eighteen raced against their parents bringing the total participants to well over 200. Local Olympian from the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics and member of the ski club, Gary Athens, showed his continued support handing out some of his bib collection from races around the world – an honour for all those on the receiving end. The festivities will continue here at Big White as the Big White Games continue in unison with the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games ending February 28. Upcoming events include a biathalon, Tube park luge, Family fun race and a figure skating demonstration!
