Saturday morning saw 92 athletes tackle BC’s latest adventure race, the Chairlift Challenge at Big White Ski Resort. With mountain temperatures hovering around 4 degrees and both snow and rain making an appearance on the course, racers had to battle difficult elements, challenging visibility and an elevation gain of 604m while traversing rough access roads, boulders and alpine meadows.

The winner of the 10km race was Matthew Fortuna, a 34-year-old from Oyama, who crossed the finish line after 57 minutes and 40 seconds. First place in the women’s division went to 25-year-old Jill Reader, who completed the loop in one hour, 13 minutes and 51 seconds.

“We’re so excited to see so many trail runners embracing this event and taking it to the next level,” said Vice-President of Hospitality at Big White, Trevor Hanna. “Thanks to the mountain terrain, we’re able to offer up a course that is both challenging and rewarding for racers. We hope to add more summer events to the local trail running scene in future.”
