Kelsey Serwa wins World Championship
Big White’s very own Kelsey Serwa was crowned World Cup FIS Freestyle Ski Cross champion today at the World Championships at Deer Valley Resort, Park City, Utah. Serwa qualified yesterday in forth, and brought home first once again today! This is Serwa’s year with 3 first and 1 second place finish.
This is after taking Gold at the Winter X-Games last weekend in Aspen, Colorado where Serwa had a massive crash at the end of the course landing on her back, but still managing to cross the finish line first. Serwa was able to get up, wave the Canadian flag, and give an interview as blood dripped down her face.
Although bruised and battered from the X-Games, Serwa came charging out of the gates fighting today. Blair Ireland, Director of Guest Services, commented “She took the lead out of the starting gate, maintained the lead over the first jump and never looked back. She really dominated this race.” Julia Murray from Whistler, BC was close behind and took Silver.
During her interview after the race, she said she was nervous going into the race because of the big crash at the X-Games. Serwa quickly got into the groove after a few training runs and clearly went for it.
In typical Kelsey fashion, she was quick to acknowledge her teammate Julia Murray and how great it was to be up there on the podium with her fellow Canadian.
