Big White's Stephanie Haines gets to the Billabong Flaunt it Finals in Lake Tahoe
Billabong’s Flaunt it is an all-girls slope style and rail jam snowboard series with 7 stops across North America and over $30,000 worth in cash and prizes up for grabs. Big White Ski Resort hosted Flaunt It in TELUS Park on February 26th. The finals were held in Lake Tahoe on April 9th, where one winner from each event won flights and accommodation to the event.
This was Big White’s first year of hosting Flaunt it, and it’s success was enormous. The park crew had created a great setup with good rails and jumps. There was a great showing of talented girls from Kelowna as well as Whistler and Calgary. The format was a slopestyle event in the morning followed by the rail jam in the afternoon. The girls could do as many runs as they wanted throughout the day showing who had the skills.
Big White’s Stephanie Haines took top spot at the Big White competition, getting her to the Finals at Lake Tahoe. “The jumps and Rails were huge and all the girls were great. It was a long fun day in the sun!” commented Haines.
Haines, from Ste. Therese, Quebec had been snowboarding since 2000, teaching at Big White since 2009 and is sponsored by Deviate Board Shop. She plans do more filming next winter, participate in contests and continue coaching the BC development team on weekends while studying Human Kinetics in Penticton.
